A power training program in fitness refers to a set of exercises that are designed to get a person to apply the maximum amount of force possible as quickly as possible; this is based on the idea that the combination of strength and speed equals power.
Regular weight training exercises are an example of this because of the explosive force and speed that are required to lift a weight above a person’s head. Jumping with weights and throwing weights are two other examples of this type of exercise.
It can also include more complex exercises that involve lifting as much as possible while also performing dynamic movements which are called polymetrics. This combination of high strength with high speed exercise is said to lead to an increased ability to apply power. Power training programs are typically designed to increase an ability to apply power in general and to meet a sport’s specific requirements.
