Head hunting firms are companies that provide employment recruiting services for an employer. They are hired by firms to find talented individuals who meet specific job requirements. They are often referred to as executive recruiters and their function is also called executive search.
Such firms may already have a list of candidates that are available for specific positions, or act aggressively to find such talent often by focusing on competitors’ employees and attempting to convince them to change employers. Employers tend to enlist head hunting services where there is an urgent need to fill the role and they are unable to find the right person themselves.
These firms are often paid on a contingency basis where they are only paid when they are successful in placing a candidate in a job. This fee can be as much as a year’s salary that the employee receives in the new role (paid by the employer).
