Family Reading Isn’t Just For Spending Time Together

Family reading may be more than just spending quality time together as a family unit. There have been a multitude of studies that indicate children who read regularly with their families reap the benefits. One of the main benefits may actually be an increased vocabulary. When a child reads with a parent, this affords them opportunities to ask questions about terms or concepts that they may not fully understand or have not heard before. Another beneficial finding is exposure to books at an early age can foster a love of reading. By starting early and turning into a family affair, children may be more likely to read on their own as they get older. These are just two of the most beneficial aspects of reading together with children. However, spending time with your children and making lasting memories may be the icing on the cake.
