Recently, Qualcomm acquired the well-known developer of GestureTek’s gesture recognition technology, a number of technical assets. The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed.

GestureTek’s video gesture control technology enables users to simply by moving the hand or body to control the multimedia content, access information, manipulate special effects, and even make themselves immersed in the virtual 3D virtual world. This technique does not require to wear, hold or touch anything like the Wii will be able to improve the gesture control. In fact, GestureTek’s software and patents have been licensed to Microsoft for the Xbox 360 and licensed to Sony and NTT DoCoMo for their mobile phones.

Qualcomm, the new technology will be applied to its smartphone portfolio, will enable manufacturers introduced, including gesture recognition technology. This gesture recognition technology will be integrated into the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor family, so that OEM vendors to produce natural human gesture based user interface for smart phones, tablet PCs and home entertainment equipment.
